Dasha
Key Term ยท Vedic planetary periods
A dasha is a chapter of life ruled by one planet, a timeline laid over your chart that tells you which story you are in right now.
What it means
Dasha is the predictive backbone of Vedic astrology. Your life is divided into planetary periods, each ruled by one of the nine grahas, with sub-periods inside them. The sequence and length come from the position of the Moon at birth. Where Western astrology reads transits, Vedic astrology often reads the dasha to describe the era, its themes, and its lessons.
In your chart
Your dasha sequence begins with the ruler of the nakshatra your Moon occupied at birth. Knowing your current dasha tells you which planet is sponsoring this stretch of life: its strengths, its tests, and the areas it governs.
